Being healthy is a life choice we make. It doesn't happen overnight. You have to set up a regime and stick to it. A healthy lifestyle isn't limited to eating healthy or going to the gym. It's about taking care of your mind, soul and your body.

Here are 5 tips that can lead you to live a healthy lifestyle. If you stick around them long enough, you’ll definitely enjoy the perks of a healthy lifestyle.

1.   Have a Balanced Diet

Having a balanced, adequate and varied diet is an important step towards a happy and healthy lifestyle. Your body needs everything, protein, fat, vitamins, carbs, minerals, and fiber, all in adequate quantity. It is not about strict limitations, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself of the foods you love, but rather selecting the healthiest options from each category. Make a few small changes at a time. As your small changes become habit, you can continue to add more healthy choices. Steer away from sugary and processed foods and add more fresh ingredients like vegetables, fruits to your everyday meal.

2.   Stay Hydrated

Though this point is often stressed, many of us still miss drinking the required water amount every day - causing tiredness, headaches, and less energy. Carrying a water bottle around with you will make you more likely to drink throughout the day.

3.   Have Some Downtime

Our body needs to cool down and fuel up if we want it to work more efficiently. Or else it'll burn out. Practice yoga, go for a walk, read a book, take a dip in the water. Do what relaxes your body.

4.   Break a Sweat

Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your body. There are many benefits but some of the crucial ones are improved brain health, increased bone and muscle strength, reduced risk of diseases. It even boosts your mood because exercising releases endorphins, the hormones that cheer you up.

5.   Avoid Smoking and Binge Drinking

It is hard to find a smoker in the world who is glad they started smoking. It's detrimental to health and not just your own health but even those around you. It increases the risk of cancer, lung diseases, cardiac arrest and more. As for drinking alcohol (or choose not to drink), moderation is the key. Being under the influence has never brought good to anyone.

No matter what you do in life, it's important to look after your body and constantly revamp it. From following a balanced diet to relaxing your body, a healthy lifestyle is a combination of healthy activities. Do you best to follow these five tips and you'll most definitely enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
